Coming up with a business idea! | Chris Hutchings

022 | Coming up with a business idea!πŸ’‘

I’m quite fortunate (cursed perhaps? πŸ€”) when it comes to business ideas. I have loads.

I do think entrepreneurial block is a thing for many. I’m not sure it should be though.

My dad gave me a piece of advice many moons ago that has always stuck with me.

He said ‘you can either do something new or you can do something that’s already been done and just do it better.’

It’s simple but solid advice.

Surveys are far from being new. I believe ensuring they are always engaging and never longer than 30 seconds to complete is.

Being realistic, your idea is probably not going to be original. That’s ok.

It’s probably not going to be scalable to billions of customers. That is also ok.

There is nothing wrong with creating a lifestyle business.

The internet has opened up a huge amount of options to create revenue streams around you and your business that didn’t exist before.

If you are struggling to come up with an idea, look around you.

What problems do you come up against on a regular basis? Are they fixable? Are there others facing the same issues?

Look at your hobbies, interests and subjects you enjoy talking about. What existing businesses are there catering to these topics? Is there anything you can add your own special twist to? Something that has room for improvement?

If you have an interest in something, making content and telling stories about it will be a walk in the park for you.

I’m not a huge believer in long and dreary business plans. Google one page or lean business plans (there are loads) and get the basics written down.

And then start. Apply a little consistency and a splash of persistence and you’ll be all good.

You can do it and I wish you all the best!
