I fixed my doomscrolling without actually stopping.

I know this happens to you too...

You open your phone to check one thing.

Five minutes later you're scrolling something completely different, and you can't even remember what you originally wanted to do.

Then the frustration kicks in. Not at anyone else. At yourself.

I do this constantly. It drives me mad.

Am I daft?!

Same itch every time.

Bored for two seconds, phone's out, thumb's already moving before I've decided anything.

I tried deleting apps. Tried screen time limits.

Neither stuck, because the urge itself never went away, I'd just moved the target.

And downloaded them again...

Just to check something quickly...

Then I'll delete them again... 🙄

There had to be an alternative to this vicious circle of social media hell.

So I stopped trying to kill the urge and started redirecting it instead.

I replaced the habit with a better habit.

And it was actually formed from one of my other bad habits.

Saving articles and blog posts to 'read later' that I never ever get around to.

They just sat as open tabs, or in Notion, or an Apple note.

Abandoned until one of my regular delete-everything spring cleans.

But now there was an alternative.

Every article, blog post or link I want to read but don't have time for right that moment, goes straight into the Books app on my phone.

It syncs across my phone, iPad and Mac, so it's always there whenever I open any of them.

Now when that scroll itch hits, I open Books instead of whatever it would have been.

Same motion, same five minutes, completely different result.

Fixing two problems at once.

The mindless scrolling I hated myself for, and the pile of "read later" links I never actually read later.

Now they've got one home, and I actually open it, because it's the exact place I go when I'm bored.

Small change. Bigger difference than I expected.

Next time that scroll itch hits, try redirecting it somewhere that leaves you better off than when you started.
